Some commonly asked questions:
Will what we discuss be kept confidential?
The law protects that anything discussed between a client and a psychotherapist be confidential, and information cannot be disclosed without your consent.
Limits on Confidentiality Include:
- Suspected child abuse or elder abuse. I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If there is a reasonable suspicion that a client is in danger of violence to others, I am required to report this.
- If there is reasonable suspicion that a client intends to harm him/herself, I will make every effort to get their cooperation in ensuring his/her safety. However, if the client does not cooperate a safety plan, I will take measures without his/her consent to keep the client safe.
Which therapy approach do you use?
I use a variety of approaches, as I believe that treatment should be individualized and that no single approach is best for everyone. My overall therapeutic framework is systems-based, and I also draw from a strengths-based perspective that focuses on maximizing your existing resources. When helpful, I integrate mindfulness-based approaches, family systems, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed parts work, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I believe in empowering clients to recognize and build on their strengths. I see my role as a facilitator of change, while my clients are the experts in their own lives and fully capable of making meaningful shifts.
What takes place during therapy sessions?
During the first session, I listen to your concerns. Collaboratively, we will come up with goals for future sessions. I will offer feedback during sessions, and support you during the process. Typically, I meet with clients once per week. However, together we can assess whether you need
more sessions (twice a week), or less sessions (possibly every two weeks). The duration of the session is 50 minutes.
What is your availability?
I work Mondays through Fridays, by appointment only. I offer my clients a highly individualized experience, which includes being available to you between sessions. I typically return emails, calls, and texts between 9am and 8pm Monday-Friday.
If you are having a mental health emergency, call 911 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
